As a veteran film producer, I know that cinema plays a fundamental role in raising awareness on social issues and delivering effective calls for action. And in recent years, I have seen movies give more attention to one of the pre-eminent challenges of our times: global warming and the looming dangers of climate change.
Connect4Climate partnered with AfriDocs to present a week of climate change films to coincide with the United Nations Framework on Climate Change COP meeting in Lima, Peru.
WASHINGTON, October 30, 2014--Ten young film crews from ten different countries were chosen as winners in the Action4Climate documentary competition. Their outstanding and unique films inspire the world to take action on climate change.
On September 1st 2014, through its long relationship with Televisionet (TVN), the Connect4Climate program of the World Bank Group helped host the first Interreligious Match for Peace with world-famous footballers, an event proposed and introduced by Pope Francis.
The 2014 World Day to Combat Desertification global observance event focused on the theme of ecosystem-based adaptation, with a rallying call “Land Belongs to the Future – Let’s Climate Proof It.” Approximately 400 representatives from government, intergovernmental and civil society organizations (CSOs) registered for the event, which took place on Tuesday, 17 June 2014, at World Bank headquarters in Washington, DC, US.
WASHINGTON, July 3, 2014—Every year, 24 billion tons of fertile soils are lost to us from erosion while 12 million hectares of land are degraded through drought and the steady encroachment of desert. With every hectare of land we lose to drought or the desert, we also lose tons of potential grain which makes life even more of an ordeal for the 1.5 billion people worldwide who make their living off degraded land.
Connect4Climate and the University of Warsaw co-hosted Be the Movement, an international workshop addressing the means of expanding and strengthening the global climate change movement during the November 2013 United Nations-sponsored climate change talks (UNFCCC COP19) in the Polish capital. The workshop was an inspiring gathering of climate change activists, youth and concerned professionals.
Youth in 70 countries are calling for climate action with more than 230 documentaries. The response to the Action4Climate competition has been overwhelming.
WASHINGTON, April 16, 2014 – The global partnership program Connect4Climate has joined forces with Vimeo to promote the creative contents generated by Connect4Climate’s Action4Climate competition and spearhead the climate change conversation.
